The ”Seminar on Popular
Culture and Religion" was founded in March 1995 in Hamburg.
It
is an initiative which intends to supply a constant forum for
schlolarly discourse concerning questions of religion in connection
with all fields of popular culture (music, videos, films, advertising,
literature, computers, etc.).
It is cross-disciplinary
although taking into special account perspectives from theology and
religious studies.
Its
aim is to promote cooperation between scholars from different
disciplines and fields of interest. It tries to do so by regular annual
conferences, by the generation of bibliographies, by promoting regional
groups of scholars and by this internet platform.
At present, more than 70
scholars are registered on the seminar's membership list.
